Funding and scholarships
The minimum pupillage award for the period 1 January to 31 December 2025 is:
-
£24,203 for 12-month pupillages in London
-
£22,019 per annum for pupillages outside London
Despite this increase, you may be worried about supporting yourself during pupillage. The Inns of Court can offer financial support in certain circumstances, and there are also other sources of funding that you may want to consider.
For more information about each Inn's scholarship opportunities for pupils, please see their websites: Gray's Inn, Inner Temple, Lincoln's Inn, Middle Temple.

Other sources of funding
- The Kalisher Scholarship Trust, which covers the vocational component course fees for two aspiring barristers each year and provides a variety of smaller bursaries and awards including an annual £3,000 essay prize. The aim is to encourage and support talented students who would otherwise not be able to pursue a career at the criminal Bar
- The Law Reform Essay Competition offers generous prizes to winners and runners-up, which may support you during your pupillage.
